When your site isn’t a building at all.

From a boat needing shrinkwrap to scaffolding built around mature trees, here's how we adapt access and weather protection to sites that don't play by the rules.

Shrinkwrapped yacht ready for a full repaint

Most of our work is scaffolding and shrinkwrap on houses and commercial sites, but not always. Over the years we have shrinkwrapped a boat ahead of a full repaint, built scaffolding around mature trees the client wanted kept rather than cut back, fitted access around a domed roof that does not have a straight edge anywhere on it, and more. No job is too big, too small, or too unusual. If it needs scaffolding or weather protection, it is worth a call to see what we can do.

When the site is a boat, not a building

A full repaint meant the hull and surfaces needed to stay dry and protected from the elements for the full length of the job, the same problem shrinkwrap solves on a house or commercial building. The difference was the shape. A boat's curves and rigging do not sit still and square the way a building's walls and roofline do, so getting a proper seal meant working around a structure that was never designed with shrinkwrap in mind. The principle stayed the same throughout, a sealed, weathertight barrier that lets the work underneath carry on regardless of the forecast. What changed was the approach to fitting it.

When there is a tree in the way

Plenty of sites come with something already growing where the scaffolding needs to go, and cutting it back is not always an option or something the client wants. We have built scaffolding around established trees and palms on site, working the structure around the trunk and canopy rather than through them, so the team still gets safe, solid access without touching the landscaping. It takes more thought at the planning stage, but it means the job does not come at the cost of something that took years to grow.

When the roof is not a roof shape at all

Standard scaffolding and edge protection are built around flat walls and straight rooflines. A domed structure has neither, every surface curves, so the whole approach to access needs to adapt to the shape rather than the shape adapting to a standard scaffold. It is the same underlying job, safe access to work at height, just built around a structure that does not follow the usual rules.

It is a good reminder that access and weather protection problems do not always come in the shape of a standard site. Whatever the surface, the same questions apply: what does this job actually need to stay safe and protected, and what is the most practical way to get there.

Why teams around Auckland choose TradeHire

At TradeHire, access is our challenge, not yours. We are a Site Safe accredited, family run business with more than twenty years in the trade and over sixty thousand jobs completed. Scaffolding, roof edge protection, and shrinkwrap are the core of what we do, but the underlying job is always the same: working out what a site actually needs and getting it sorted properly, whatever shape that site happens to be.

If you have got a job that does not quite fit the usual mould, it is worth a call rather than assuming it is out of scope. Get in touch on 0800 007 123 or office@tradehire.co.nz, or send through some photos and we will have a look.
